Lanikai Lei

Aloha my friends,

I am currently spending time with family in Kailua, the Windward side of Oahu in Hawaii. Days are spent beach bumming, boogie boarding (not quite ready for surfing), hiking and making leis…Nights are spent looking up at the blanket of stars and the waxing moon, sipping wine out in the lanai with the cool breeze, storytelling with my siblings.

I also showcased my jewelry in the Hawaii Handcrafters Alliance at Kapiolani Park in Waikiki one weekend, and was thrilled to have seen a surprise performance of Jack Johnson for the annual Ukelele festival in this same venue. A few native Hawaiians came by and said “You do nice work here!” in their Pidgin tongue, and one woman came over who was a Brooklyn native and instantly was drawn to the Love Knot lariat with Lapis drop. Also, this is a picture of Margarita, who visits the island every year and she made my day with her humor and enthusiasm. She is wearing the circle and oval lariat in gold filled. So you see, the Hawaiian islands are not so far away in fact, despite being tiny archipelagos in the great Pacific ocean.

Some images of the pieces made in Kailua, and the plumeria lei from my sister’s tree and Lanikai, their local beach!
